I once heard about a CEO who called employees his co-workers. The anecdote was told to me like it was unique and revolutionary. I guess it is, but it shouldn't be. It is simply accurate.
When you have a business, you journey together, in your unique roles, toward a common goal. Your role as the leader is not to stand above them as a dictator, ensuring your will is done. Your role is to serve them, to ensure they have all they need to work toward the common goal.
To be a great leader, you must stand with your people, among your people. Certainly not above them. The idea that you stand above is where many business owners fail.
Be different from the sad majority. Serve your co-workers today.
