You’re already marketing through everything you do. Advertising is a way to market your business. But so is how you care for your employees. As is what suppliers you choose.
Marketing is, at its core, your ethos played out in every facet of your business.
But if you want to be more intentional in your marketing efforts in order to grow your business, you should create and execute an effective marketing plan.
Prep for creating the plan:
In order to prepare for creating a plan, you must -
- Know your business - What makes you different? What do you stand for? What is the ethos of your business?
- Know your customer - Who are they? Where are they? What do they want? What messages resonate with them?
Creating the plan:
Armed with the information above, you can create a plan to effectively communicate your business’s unique ethos to your ideal customer. The plan should include how much you’re willing to invest as well as how you’ll determine if the plan is effective. Creating the plan also contains the fun part - where you brainstorm creative ways to reach your ideal customer with your message.
Executing and evaluating the plan:
After you have a solid plan, you can start to implement what you’ve planned and evaluate its effectiveness as you go. Don’t be afraid to change courses if the plan isn’t working.
The essential factor to your plan’s success:
The absolute key to marketing is to be able to back up what you market your business as. Your actions must be consistent with your messages, otherwise your business will be rendered untrustworthy.
Consistency is key.
